Kottmar (municipality)

The community Kottmar is a unified community in the south of the eastern Saxony Landkreis Görlitz between Zittau and Bautzen, which from the surrounding communities of the mountain Kottmar arose on January 1, 2013 ( Eibau with forest village, Neueibau and Kottmarhäuser, Obercunnersdorf with Kottmarsdorf and Niedercunnersdorf with Ottenhain ). Since no incorporation for the benefit of the communities took place, the formation of a new municipality under this name was necessary. The municipality is located in the district of Eibau and has about 8000 inhabitants and is the largest non-urban community of the district.

Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the south of Upper Lusatia and partially forms a transition from the Upper Lusatian Mountains on the Eastern Upper Lusatia. The district Obercunnersdorf extends in the valley of Cunnersdorfer water.

On the Kottmar, the mountain of the community, is one of the three sources Spree. Since this is the most elevated, it is referred to as a main artery.

Neighboring communities

To the church Kottmar Dürrhennersdorf and Großschweidnitz to the northwest, Lobau in the north, Herrnhut in the Northeast, or joke in the southeast, Leutersdorf in the south and Ebersbach- Neugersdorf in the West.

The municipality comprises the seven districts inclusive, Kottmarsdorf, Neueibau, Niedercunnersdorf, Obercunnersdorf, Ottenhain and forest village.

History

The oldest known written mention of the district Eibau dates back to 1352, upper and Niedercunnersdorf 1221 were mentioned for the first time. Obercunnersdorf was known for its rich heritage-listed timber house inventory, and received the honorary title of UNESCO Denkmalort. Eibau gained with the country brewery, which now form the private brewery Eibau since 1810 i.Sa. GmbH (until recently Münch -Bräu Eibau GmbH) operates through regional awareness.

The districts are characterized by its former linen mill and the traditional half-timbered houses.

Eibau:

  • Home and Humboldt Museum (since October 31, 2012 originated in Faktorenhof near the B96, formerly on the Eibauer Beckenberg, 1864-1945; within the collective activity of a scientifically oriented Homeland Association, the Humboldt Association of Alteibau; exhibition of local history, a natural history collection as well as curiosities, rarities and two moving nativity scenes )

Kottmarsdorf:

  • Barber Museum Kottmarsdorf (opened on 11 November 2000, shows old interior of hairdressing salons and the tools of hairdressers yesteryear. )

Obercunnersdorf:

  • Museum Heimatstube in the library house " pastor -Heinz - Leßmann -Stube " ( awarded in 2003 to commemorate the Obercunnersdorfer original Heinz Leßmann ( 1903-1983 ), the name " priest -Heinz - Leßmann -Stube " )

Regular events

Since 1993, every year in the district Eibau the end of June, the traditional Eibauer Bierzug instead. The parade along the main road 96 commemorates the historically authentic beer dispute between Lobau, Zittau and Görlitz in the 17th century.

Taking place in the district Niedercunnersdorf annual " Cunnerschdurfer Schiss'n " is a Jacobi market in Neugersdorf similar festival, which dates back to the year 1839. It lists about 20,000 visitors annually.
