The Kottmar is a mountain of the Lusatian mountain land in the district of Görlitz with a height of 583 m above sea level. NN. The mountain is just like the lying in close proximity Poor Mountain in Ebersbach and the mountain Löbauer an extinct volcano of the tertiary volcanism. It is composed of phonolite ( phonolite ), a volcanic igneous.

History

On March 16, 1311, the city bought the Lobau Kottmarberg for 80 silver marks of the Margrave of Brandenburg. As a result of Oberlausitzer Pönfalls in 1547 the city had to leave the Kottmar, but could buy him back later. To prevent wood thefts, had erected a forester house Kottmar in 1662 the Löbauer councilors. In the following years there was a settlement, established only in 1691 by the Saxon Elector Johann Georg III. was approved.

Location

Located northwest of the mountain is the place names related Kottmarsdorf, west and southwest of Ebersbach- Neugersdorf on Kottmarhang the only approved 1691 Electoral place forest village. In an easterly direction Ruppersdorf is. On the mountain there is a lookout tower, a restaurant ( no longer farmed ) and the Kottmarschanzen. At the foot of the mountain rises one of the three sources of the river as well as the Cunnersdorfer water. Both drained by the river into the North Sea, while the springing also on Kottmar Petersbach passes on the Lusatian Neisse and Oder its waters in the Baltic Sea. The Kottmar is thus part of the Upper Lusatian watershed.

Kottmargemeinde

On January 1, 2013, about 8000 inhabitants strong Kottmargemeinde from the Kottmar annularly surrounding communities Eibau with forest village, Neueibau and Kottmarhäuser, Obercunnersdorf originated with Kottmarsdorf and Niedercunnersdorf with Ottenhain.

Winter sports

The Kottmarschanzen existed since the 1960s and were built in-house performance of winter athletes and volunteers. Initially the area was around the Kottmarschanzen the training area of the BSG Lautex Neugersdorf. With the turn of 1989, however, was also the end for this operation sports community (BSG ). It is founded by the Ski Club Kottmar that renewed the plant in 2004.

Transmitter

The Kottmar wore long time a TV converter to supply the surrounding communities, in particular Eibaus, which is shaded by the mountain from the transmitter Lobau. He was shut down without replacement in the summer of 2007, after decades of operation.
