Koutammakou

The 50,000- hectare area is inhabited by the Batammariba whose mud-brick houses ( " Takienta " ) are considered as a symbol of Togo. In Togo, is commonly spoken of the " Pays Tamberma ", the huts are called "Tata ".

The grouped in villages buildings reflect the social structure of the society of the Batammariba. Many of the buildings have two floors, granaries consist of a cylindrical base surmounted by a hemisphere, some houses have conical, others flat roofs. The village also includes places for ceremonies, springs, rocks and the initiation ceremonies reserved areas.

The Koutammakou is regarded as one of the few still existing traditional societies around the world.
