Koutiala

Region

Koutiala is a city in Mali in the administrative region of Sikasso. Koutiala is the catchment area of around 355,000 people, the city itself in 2005 counted about 99,000 inhabitants, spread over 18,000 sq. km. The population development continues steadily upwards. The city is located 140 km north of the regional capital, Sikasso and about 350 km east of the provincial capital, Bamako.

The city is sometimes called " the white gold capital", which is meant by the white gold cotton.
