Kōzan-ji

Kozan -ji (Japanese高 山寺) is a Buddhist temple in northern Kyoto. He was elected in 1994 as part of the ensemble Historical Kyoto (Kyoto, Uji and Otsu Cities ) UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for the possession of the scrolls of the fun animals. The temple is an independent temple as part of the Shingon doctrine.

Description

Situated in the mountains in the northwest of the city of Kyoto temple has existed since the Heian period, then by the priest Myoe (1173-1232) was rebuilt and was turned inside many followers. The building Sekisui - in (石 水 院) of the temple is a national treasure. The temple also has valuable scrolls and writings, including the following National Treasures of the Kamakura period:

  • Buddhist worship image (仏 眼 仏 母, Butsugen - Butusumo zō )
  • "Image priest Myoe sitting on the branch " ( zō zazen明 恵 上人 树上 坐禅 像, Myoe - shōnin JUJO )
  • " Scrolls of fun animals" (鸟 獣 戏 画 絵 巻, choju giga emaki )
  • " Scrolls the founder of the Kegon Shuu " (华 厳 宗 祖师 絵 伝 六 巻, Kegon shū soshi eden Rokken )

The originals of the fun animals are kept in equal parts to Kyoto National Museum and the National Museum Tōkyō. In the temple itself but copies are to be seen.

Next to the temple is known for its tea garden and for its autumn foliage.
