Kozloduy Island

The island Kozloduy ( Bulgarian Остров Козлодуй; transcription: Ostrov Kozloduy ) is a Danube island in northern Bulgaria near the border with Romania.

Geography

The island is located just north of the town of Kozloduy and the Kozloduy nuclear power plant on the Danube 695.8 kilometers. Kozloduy is 7,5 km long and between 0.5 and 1.6 km wide. The island has an area of 6.1 km ² and is three to four feet above the water level of the Danube. It is the second largest Bulgarian Danube Island to Belene.

Kozloduy is on the right side of the Danube, which runs north fairway. The Bulgarian riverside is 200 meters away and can be reached only by boat. In the immediate vicinity of the island is Kopaniza ( Bulg Остров Копаница ).

Others

On the island grow poplars also be found nesting grounds of wild geese and wild ducks. With boats farmers drive cattle to graze on the island. Also, here corn and watermelons are grown.
