KPMG International Cooperative ( also KPMG International) is a global network of legally separate and independent companies in the areas of audit, tax and corporate and management consulting.

Development and brand

KPMG was formed by merger legally separate and independent accounting and consulting firms from the Netherlands, Great Britain, the United States and Germany. The letters give each a reference to the founder and chairman of these companies:

  • Klynveld - by Piet Klynveld, founder of Klynveld Kraayenhof & Co. founded in Amsterdam in 1917,

History

The company's history dates back to 1870 when William Barclay Peat in London called the accounting firm " William Barclay Peat & Co. " to life. 1890 became the first German firm that founded " German -American Trust Company". From 1892 this was renamed as " German Treuhand-Gesellschaft " ( DTG). In 1911, William Barclay Peat & Co. and Marwick Mitchell & Co. merged. The new company later became known as Peat Marwick International (PMI ) is known.

1979 Klynveld merged with Deutsche Treuhand-Gesellschaft ( DTG) and McLintock Main Lafrentz audit firm Klynveld Main Goerdeler ( KMG).

1986 merged PMI and KMG in the first mega- merger of large accounting firms. The new company in 1987 received the name " KPMG ." Ten years later, in 1997, negotiated KPMG and Ernst & Young on a merger. This was generally regarded as a response to the recently performed merger of Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand PricewaterhouseCoopers.
