Province

Krabi ( Thai: กระบี่, pronunciation: [ KRA bì ]; something like, ' old sword ') is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง กระบี่ ) in the Thai province of Krabi. The capital of the Amphoe (, County ') Mueang Krabi ( Thai: อำเภอ เมือง กระบี่ ) and the province of Krabi.

Location

The Krabi Province is located in the southern region of Thailand, on the west coast of Thailand to the Andaman Sea on a bay opposite the island of Phuket. The small provincial capital is located at the same Krabi River. She's metropolis and financial center of the region.

Geography

For district Mueang Krabi also included the Phi Phi Islands and other smaller islands. Due to the interesting karst landscape of the coast numerous popular tourist destinations have emerged. The best known are:

  • Rai Leh ( also: Raleigh ), consisting of East and West Beach (on the Rai Leh peninsula, only accessible by boat). National Parks

The Khao Phanom Bencha National Park in the north of the district protects the forests around the Phanom Bencha, the highest elevation of the province of Krabi. In the hills of Maenam Krabi also rises (Krabi River ), which flows near the county town Krabi in the bay of Phang Nga. Its estuary with mangrove forests and mudflats is a right protected under the Ramsar Convention wetland.

Economic importance and

Krabi is one of the most attractive destinations in southern Thailand. The Andaman Sea to the west, lying on the countless natural attractions is impressive. These include the white-sand beaches, steep cliffs rising high, fascinating coral reefs, numerous large and small islands and forests with caves and waterfalls.

The tourist development of the area is in full swing. The rugged, towering limestone cliffs attract climbers from all over the world, sometimes they can only climb with equipment. For this purpose, a local industry developed.

Traffic

The provincial capital is Krabi ( Hat Yai ), the hub of the tourism in the south of Thailand.

Ferries

A new, a similar Hall airport ferry terminal has been put into operation in the west of the city in 2003. From there, the ferries run daily to the Phi Phi Islands (travel time about an hour ) to Ko Lanta (takes around two hours), Ko Phuket (about a two and a half hours).

Airport

The Krabi ( KBV) Airport is about eight kilometers northeast of the city center. Flights are mainly to Bangkok. Since the expansion and the official opening of an international airport in May 2006, and international flights are offered, among others, to Kuala Lumpur.

Attractions

  • Krabi town - the old harbor and the south of it lies the city park on the Krabi River. The market square, right on the old harbor located. The city center with its many small souvenir shops, restaurants and bars.
  • Nature - the beautiful area forms the main attraction, otherwise the usual concomitants of mass tourism are available.
  • Ko Kai ( Chicken Island, เกาะ ไก่ ) and Ko Poda ( เกาะ ปอ ดะ ) - two beautifully situated small islands, which are approached from Ao Nang Beach with longtail boat and are in sight.
  • Tiger Cave Temple ( Wat Tham Suea วัด ถ้ำ เสือ ) - a temple complex with Lookout, accessible only by the increase of 1,200 steps and located about five kilometers north of Krabi.
