Krakow am See

Krakow am See is a town in the south of the district of Rostock in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). It is the seat of the Office of the same name, composed of five more communities. Since 2000, Krakow is a state- recognized health resort.

Geography

The city is located north of the lake district on the northwest shore of the highly structured, bays and islands rich Krakower lake whose surface to about 80 % belongs to the city. The southern part of Krakow Lake and other lakes ( inter alia, age Dorfsee, Bossower lake, Derliener lake, long lake and Black Lake ) are part of the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heath. Krakow am See is located about 18 kilometers south of the county town Güstrow.

History

Krakow am See, a altmecklenburgische country town, was first mentioned on May 21, 1298. The name is of Slavic origin, "place of crows " could mean or be derived from krk ( "neck" ), based on the shape of the Krakow Lake. The city was the residence of the prince - line Werle Güstrow and sometimes the venue of the Mecklenburg princes in the Middle Ages. Bellin

Economy and infrastructure

Economy

Today smaller companies in the woodworking and metalworking, construction and other craft determine the economic life of Krakow am See. In the district Möllen a new industrial park was created. Krakow am See has next to a school and daycare some doctors' offices as well as a pharmacy ( with two other branches) and is thus a sub- center for the surrounding communities office.
