The castle Krasna Horka (Slovak ( Hrad) Krasna Horka, Hungarian Krasznahorka Vára ) is a hilltop castle above the Krásnohorské Podhradie ( Okres Rožňava, Košice kraj ), about six kilometers east of Rožňava located. She was in possession of three important Hungarian Gender: Máriássy, Bebek and Andrássy. Since 1961 she is listed as a national cultural monument of Slovakia and is the site of a museum. In the castle you will find an original preserved fortress in kitchen as well as historical instruments in the music room. In the chapel you can see the natural mummified body of the Countess Žofia Seredy, wife of a former lords.

Name

The name Krasna Horka literally means " beautiful little mountain".

History

The castle was built to protect a trade route in the 14th century in the Gothic style on the site of an earlier fort from the 13th century. However, at the beginning hardly of a castle in the modern sense of the question, since only a Gothic donjon was on the limestone mountain. For the first time the castle in 1333 mention. The castle originally belonged to the possession of the Máriássy family, then to 1566, the family owned the Bebek. By the Middle Ages, disputes attracted between these genders, especially because of the rich natural resources in the area. In the 1540s, the plant was converted into a fortress on the plan of an irregular triangle with three bastions because of the danger of Turkish attacks. In 1542 here condemned as a heretic Sabbatarian Baptist Andreas Fischer was ( Slovak form of name: Ondrej Fischer) from the wall toppled into the depths.

After the extinction of the race Bebek the castle passed into imperial property and was administered by castellans. Long-term steward of the castle were castellans from the Andrássy family, but only since 1642 and finally to 1945 she was the property of the Andrássy, who took the reconstruction of the castle to the needle seat in attack. It was rebuilt again by 1710, together with the country castle in Betliar. In 1817 the castle was burnt down after a lightning strike, but was quickly rebuilt. However, it was only necessary reconstruction work and up to the 1960s was from a complete repair. A museum about the history of the noble family was founded in 1857, in the years 1903 to 1905 the building was renovated. The whole castle was nationalized in 1945 as part of the Beneš Decrees and classified in 1948 as a national treasure of Czechoslovakia. Since 1961 the castle is a national cultural monument since 1996, it is managed as part of the museum Betliar from the Slovak National Museum.

Fire of 2012

In a major fire on 10 March 2012, the castle was badly damaged. The entire roof structure together with three bells in the bell tower burned out; the upper castle was badly damaged. According to the Slovak National Museum but 90 % of the historical exhibits were saved. Cause may have been on the castle hill, the burning of savannas, where sparks are jumping on the shingle roof. After the police investigation, two eleven and twelve -year-old boy suspected to have placed the grass in trying to light a cigarette, carelessness on fire.
