Krasnoarmiisk

Krasnoarmijsk (Ukrainian Красноармійськ; Russian Красноармейск / Krasnoarmeisk - "City of the Red Army ") is an industrial and mining city in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine with 64 486 inhabitants ( 2013). Krasnoarmijsk is a city of regional significance and administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

Geography

Krasnoarmijsk located on the banks of the river Hryschynka which flows through the Byk in the Samara. The city is located on the highway, a partial section of the template: RSIGN / Maintenance / EU e- inclusion 57 km northwest of the Oblastzentrum Donetsk and 7 km west of Dymytrow.

The county has a total of 77,400 inhabitants ( 2013). The city district still includes not only the actual city, the city Rodynske ( Родинське ) with 10,710 inhabitants ( 2012) and the urban-type settlement Shevchenko ( Шевченко ) with 1,915 inhabitants ( 2012).

History

Founded in 1875 as Grichino ( Гришино ), the settlement in honor of the politician Pavel Postyshev was renamed in 1934 in Postyschewo ( Постышево ). 1938, the former namesake Postyshev was temporarily out of favor, arrested and shot, it was renamed the Krasnoarmijsk while the municipal rights were granted.

On February 23, 1943, the city was again, until the final liberation by the Red Army on 8 September 1943 completely under German control. Since January 1963 Krasnoarmijsk is a city of regional significance.
