Krasnohvardiiske

Krasnohwardijske (Ukrainian Красногвардійське; Russian Красногвардейское / Krasnogwardeiskoje ) is an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons in the center of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (Ukraine ) with 10,600 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geography

Krasnohwardijske is located on the highway 68 km north-east of Simferopol, the capital of Crimea, and 95 km south-east of Armjansk. Also part of the settlement council community Krasnohwardijske addition, the settlement Wydne ( Видне ) with about 750 inhabitants.

History

The village was founded with the former, Tatar name Qurman in the early 1860s. In the years 1874-1875, a railway station was built in the village. From 1 November 1941 to 12 April 1944, the place of troops of the Wehrmacht was occupied. After the deportation of the Crimean Tatars, the village was in 1944 Kurman - Kemeltschi (Ukrainian Курман - Кемельчі ) in Krasnohwardijske (derived from the Russian word Красная гвардия / Krasnaya Gvardija for Red Guard ) renamed. 1957 Krasnohwardijske received the status of an urban-type settlement.

Krasnohwardijske is the administrative seat of the homonymous Rajons. The Rajon Krasnohwardijske located in the center of the Crimean peninsula, without access to the Black Sea. It has 91,100 inhabitants and an area of 1766 km ². The population density is 51 inhabitants per km ².
