Krasnosielc

Krasnosielc is a village located in powiat Makowski in the Masovian Voivodeship, Poland. The village is also the seat of the rural commune ( gmina wiejska ).

Geography

Krasnosielc is located about 90 km north of Warsaw and 18 km east of Przasnysz at the Orzyc. Through the village runs the Droga wojewódzka 544

History

The village has already existed in 1374, the first written record dates from Henryka Holta from the year 1413 in a report on the border dispute between Mazovia and the German Order. He names the place as Siedlce. In ancient sources the place is called Sielc or Siedlec. Later, the addition of " Krasno " was added after the name of the Krasinski family. In 1824 the city received city rights. This lost it, in consequence of the January Uprising, in 1869. Since 1873 or 1874 there was a public school in Krasnosielc, first the language of instruction was Russian from 1905 then polish. In 1881 there was a famine caused by a drought and in the years 1893/94 it came to a cholera epidemic. 1900, the first library was set up in place. End of the nineteenth century was also a Jewish elementary school and a Jewish library in place. 1905/ 06 also occurred in and around Krasnosielc riots and strikes against the Tsar. It was founded in 1906 and the first volunteer fire department in Krasnosielc. In 1910 the town had 2782 inhabitants after the First World War there were only 1842. The front ran intermittently along the river Orzyc. Krasnosielc was from 1939 - 1945 occupied by the German Wehrmacht.

From 1975 - 1998 the village belonged to the province Ostrołęka.

The municipality has an areal extent of 166.96 km ². 68 % of its territory is used for agriculture, 29 % is covered by forest.

History

Between the two world wars Krasnosielc was once the seat of a municipality which belonged to the powiat Makowski in the Province of Warsaw. The community consisted of 38 villages of which 35 were sołectwo.
