Krasnyi Lyman
Krasny Lyman (Ukrainian Красний Лиман; Russian Красный Лиман / Krasny Liman ) is the northernmost city in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine. The city with 22 833 inhabitants ( 2013) is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
The city is a railway junction with a station on the railway line to Kupjansk, Kharkiv and the industrial centers of the Donets Basin and is therefore also called " the northern gate of Donbass". Another name for the city is " Donetsk Switzerland " due to the pine forests and blue lakes in the area. Therefore, next to the railway operations, tourism is an important source of revenue for the city, because the beautiful and peaceful environment not only attracts tourists and mushroom pickers, but also hunters who encounter in the woods wild boar, deer, foxes, hares and sometimes wolves.
Geography
The city is located in the Donbas, 7 km north of the Donets, 25 km northeast of the nearest big city Slowjansk and 135 km north of the Oblastzentrums Donetsk.
Belongs to the municipality, in addition to the city itself nor the village Stawky ( Ставки ) and the settlements Brussiwka ( Брусівка ), Stary caravan ( Старий Караван ) and Schtschurowe ( Щурове ).
History
Founded by the Cossacks in 1667, the place was called until 1925 Lyman ( Лиман ). Krasny Lyman, which has city status since 1938, was released on February 1, 1943 by the crew of the Wehrmacht. Since November 26, 1979 Krasny Lyman is a town of regional significance.

Rajon
Krasny Lyman is the administrative seat of the homonymous Rajons, itself, however, no part of it. The Rajon Krasny Lyman is located in the north of Donetsk Oblast, bordering the Oblast Kharkiv and Luhansk Oblast. It has an area of 1018 km ², a population of 22 226 inhabitants and a population density of 22 inhabitants per km ².
