Course

The river originates approximately one kilometer south of the Viktorshöhe in the Lower Harz belonging Rambergmassiv. The mountain has been cut into the terrain. The incision is called Krebsbachtal and narrows down the river.

In the lower reaches, after about four kilometers, flows through the Krebsbach the artificial Krebsbach pond. After about five kilometers of the Krebsbach opens on the left side in the Selke. The mouth is located north of the nearby Selketalbahn - breakpoint wire drawing.

The Krebsbach is, of colonization and morphology ago, next to the Friedenstalbach the most valuable stream of the Selke River system. Both streams are a significant repopulation pool of Selke.

This mountain has, apart from a few minor tributaries, only two natural inflows. These are the board mountain stream and a little further downstream from the cabin creek - both on the right side in the lower reaches of the stream.

The valley is traversed by the Krebsbachtal. In the course of the rare pygmy owl was detected.

Name Meaning

The name so can be derived from the cancer, with angehäntem - bach. The base word is detectable as Old High German and Middle High German chrepaʒo krebeʒ (s). It is probable that the name refers to the noble crayfish. This has one here, probably autochthonous, occurrence.
