Kreminna

Kreminna (Ukrainian Кремінна; Russian Кременная / Kreme Well ) is a location in Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine city of about 20,000 inhabitants ( 2013). Kreminna is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

Geography

Kreminna located on the banks of the river Krasna in the Donets Basin in the south of Rajon Kreminna 130 km northwest of Luhansk Oblastzentrum. The nearest major town is Sjewjerodonezk and is located in 50 km distance.

Municipality

The municipality consists of the town Kreminna itself with an area of 1572 ha and the villages:

  • Schytliwka (Ukrainian Житлівка ) Area: 247.3 ha
  • Kusmyne (Ukrainian Кузьмине ) area: 18.0 ha
  • Stara Krasnjanka (Ukrainian Стара Краснянка ) Area: 163.5 ha
  • Chervona Dibrova (Ukrainian Червона Діброва ) Area: 102.7 ha

History

Kreminna was founded in 1733. From April to November 1918, the site of the Austro- German troops had occupied. On October 28, 1938 Kreminna received the status of a city. On July 10, 1942 the city was occupied by troops of the Wehrmacht and freed after heavy battles of the Red Army troops on January 31, 1943.

Rajon

Founded in 1940 and managed by Kreminna from Rajon Kreminna is located in the western part of the Luhansk Oblast and is bordered to the west by the Donetsk Oblast and to the northwest by the Kharkiv Oblast. It has an area of 1627 km ² and a population of 41 932 inhabitants ( November 2012 ). The population density is 26 inhabitants of Rajons per km ².
