Kreuzstetten

Kreuzstetten is a market town with 1530 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Mistelbach district in Lower Austria.

Geography

Kreuzstetten lies in the wine district on the northern edge of the Kreuttals. The area of ​​the municipality covers 24.29 square kilometers. 16.43 percent of the area is forested. Through the municipal area of ​​the Hautzendorfer Bach, which east of Unterolberndorf in Rußbach flows flows.

History

Kreuzstetten was already inhabited in the Neolithic, the Bronze Age and the La Tène period. First mentioned was the place in 1125, as the market in the year 1664th

In the last days of World War II, on 17, 1945, was Niederkreuzstetten scene of fierce fighting between troops and eventful of the Wehrmacht and the Red Army, with five buildings, including the elementary school, were destroyed by fire. It also six civilians were killed and blown up three bridges. In Upper Kreuzstetten three civilians were killed.

In the first half of the 20th century Kreuzstetten developed into a summer resort. On 25 January 2007, the parish of St. James in Niederkreuzstetten celebrated its 800th anniversary.

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1499 inhabitants. In 1991, the market town of 1353 inhabitants, 1981 and 1159 in 1971, 1203 inhabitants.
