Kringvarp Føroya

Kringvarp Føroya, short KVF ( German: Radio of the Faroe Islands ) is a public- service broadcaster in the Faroe Islands. The radio station was established on 1 January 2005 with the merger of the television channel Sjónvarp Føroya and the radio channel Útvarp Føroya and is out in the fields of television and radio in the field of new media works. Kringvarp Føroya is located in Torshavn, in the buildings, which were obtained from Sjónvarp Føroya 1990 and is an associate member of the Northern Vision, a merger of state broadcasters in the Nordic countries.

History

The radio Útvarp Føroya launched in 1957 with the broadcast of programs. The Løgting decided in 1969 to build a television station, which was, however, established only in 1981 with Sjónvarp Føroya. In Tórshavn then in 1983 the establishment, an old furniture store, based and full service operation began on 1 September 1984.

The then Minister of Culture Jógvan á Lakjuni decided in 2004 to merge the two institutions in order to save costs in administration and operation. As a result, the license fees were reduced, at the same time the only färöischsprachige radio station in the world has been able to expand its range.

After the merger, both Útvarp Føroya and Sjónvarp Føroya retain their name, even if the institution behind the productions often Kringvarp Føroya means and self-produced programs on Sjónvarp Føroya most of Kringvarp Føroya must be credited. The most important self-production with the TV channel continues to be the news program Dagur og vika, and the radio still has its own newscast Útvarpstíðindini.

2008 Annika M. Jacobsen was Director of the Institute. It replaced Jógvan Jespersen, who stepped down on 1 April 2008.
