Kris Draper

Kristopher Draper ( born May 24, 1971 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey forward who played for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League.

Career

Kris Draper played from 1988 to 1990 in the Canadian National Team program. Of the Winnipeg Jets, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 in the third round at position 62. Draper went to the Jets in 1990, but came only three NHL bets and also the farm team, the Moncton Hawks in the AHL, he played only seven times. Unusually for a hockey player, he went to his missions in the two professional leagues to the Ottawa 67 's in the OHL junior league. From 1991 to 1993 he was then an integral part of the Moncton Hawks and got back and another chance in the NHL to play in Winnipeg. But he came in the four years since he was drafted only 20 NHL games.

In the summer of 1993, he was sold for a dollar to the Detroit Red Wings and after two years he had established himself in Detroit. In the Western Conference Finals in late May 1996, he was checked by Claude Lemieux of the Colorado Avalanche with his head against the gang. Draper suffered a broken jaw, nose and cheekbone and a concussion. He was at the beginning of the next season fit again and could intervene into the game again. Because of the incident, a home game against the Avalanche in March 1997, has developed into a very hard game. The Fury of the Red Wings of violations of Kris Draper culminated in a mass brawl on the ice ( Brawl in Hockeytown ). The rivalry between the two teams continued in subsequent seasons. In that year, the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup and repeated the success of 1998. 2002 Draper won with the team the third Stanley Cup in six years.

2003 Draper became world champion with Team Canada. After the 2003/ 04 season, Draper was honored as the striker with the best defensive qualities with the Frank J. Selke Trophy. In the summer of 2004, he won with the Team Canada World Cup of Hockey. In 2005 he won the silver medal at the World Championships. In the 2005/06 season the Red Wings closed the regular season as the best team in the NHL and were subject in the first round against the Edmonton Oilers.

Since he was Nicklas Lidstrom after the beginning of the 2006/07 season the senior Red Wing, it was only logical that he was appointed as alternate captain. During the season he scored 14 goals and 15 prepared before. Draper was for many years a member of the " Grind Line" in Detroit, along with Kirk Maltby and Joe Kocur (later replaced by Darren McCarty ), who were known for their tough game. In July 2011, Draper said his playing career ended.
