Krishna Carp

The Krishna carp ( Hypselobarbus dobsoni ), Eng. Krishna Carp, Saymeen, Chameen, തൊളു or താമീന് is an endemic living in India Karpfenfischart.

Description

Hypselobarbus dobsoni has fins formula: Dorsal 9-13, 2-6 Anal. The body is elongated and has no belts or strips on. The fish has two barbels and a large mouth with protruding upper jaw. The dorsal fin has an equal distance from the tip of the snout and Schwanzflossenbasis.Der Krishna carp, averaging 20 inches long, can be up to over a meter long. In the Western Ghats, a copy of 120 centimeters in length and 10 kilograms was caught.

Distribution and habitat

The Krishna carp is endemic only in Indian rivers like the Krishna River or the Cauvery. The distribution is limited to large deep rivers of the mountain region. Adult specimens chat to behind rocks and other river stones, while young fish prefer to live in rapids and deep pools.

Way of life

The Krishna carp feed on allochthonous plant material and detritus. The spawning season begins after the monsoon, when the water levels of rivers have stabilized. Juveniles are found from February to March.

Benefit

The Krishna carp is experimentally used in aquaculture.
