Kristian Gerner

Kristian Gerner (* 1942) is a Swedish historian, author, expert on Eastern Europe and professor.

Life

Gerner studied at Lund University, where he received his doctorate with a thesis on relations between the Soviet Union and Central Europe in the postwar period in 1984. From 1994 to 2002 he was a professor of Eastern European history and culture at the University of Uppsala and since 2002 he has been Professor of History at the University of Lund. His research has focused on the Central and Eastern European history and cultural history of the 20th century. He is a board member of the Swedish human rights organization, the Institute for Information communist crimes (Swedish: Upplysning om kommunismen, UOC ).
