Kristian Pless

Kristian Pless ( born February 9, 1981 in Odense ) is a Danish tennis player.

Career

Career and junior career

Pless began at the age of seven years, to play tennis. Since 1996 he has been active on the Junior Tour and won the 1999 Australian Open against Mikhail Youzhny. He also reached the finals of Wimbledon ( losing to Jurgen Melzer ) and the U.S. Open ( losing to Jarkko Nieminen ). At the end of Pless was on position 1 of the junior world rankings.

From 1999: Professional Career

Pless was initially active on the Challenger Tour and won eight titles in his career, four each in singles and in doubles. On ATP level he achieved three times the catchment in a semi-final in Grand Slam tournaments he never got beyond the second round. Still, he could reach his best finish in the world rankings with rank 65 due to constant results on 28 January 2002. After a serious shoulder injury in 2003 he fell in the rankings far away. Only in 2006 he succeeded in re- entering the top 100, in which he was able to hold on until September 2007. The end of 2010 he finally fell definitively out of the world rankings.

He participated in 2000 in the Olympic Games in Sydney, where he took part in the individual competition. In the first round he defeated the Armenian Sargis Sargsian 6-3, 6-4, had to in the subsequent round but the Australian Mark Philippoussis 4:6, defeated 4:6.

Pless denied 1999-2012 eight games for the Danish Davis Cup team, including seven between 1999 and 2001. A 2012 season, he came to eleven years of Davis Cup abstinence surprisingly against Slovenia for use. His last professional match so far denied Pless previously on 28 September 2009.
