Kristina Groves

Kristina Groves ( born December 4, 1976 in Ottawa ) is a Canadian speed skater.

She won two silver medals with the Canadian team and over 1500 meters behind Cindy Klassen and before Ireen Wuest at the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin. In the 2007/2008 season she won in the all-around world championships in Berlin the third place behind the two Dutch women Ireen Wuest and Paulien van Deutekom. In the individual sections Worlds 2008 in Nagano she became world champion at the 3000 -meter distance. At 1000 m, 1500 m and as a team they finished second and at the end she won a bronze medal at the longest distance 5000 m behind Martina Sablikova and teammate Clara Hughes.

In the 2008/2009 season she won the all-around at the World Cup in Hamar 2nd place behind the Czech Martina Sáblíková and before the Dutch Ireen Wüst. Less than a month later, Kristina Groves in Single Distances Championships 2009 in Richmond a gold medal (Team Pursuit ) and two bronze ( 5000m and 3000m ) pick.

At the Olympic Winter Games 2010 in Vancouver Kristina Groves won the bronze medal over 3000 m behind Martina Sáblíková and Stephanie Beckert. Over 1500 meters, she won silver behind Ireen Wüst.

Groves is athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play.
