The Křivoklát Castle ( German Křivoklát ) is available in Křivoklát in the Czech Okres Rakovník.

History

Křivoklát is one of the oldest castles in the Czech dukes and kings. The old castle Křivoklát, whose location has not been proven, already existed at the beginning of the 12th century and was first mentioned by Cosmas of Prague in the Chronica Boemorum. Maybe it involves today's Postal Hlavačov.

At the beginning of the 13th century, he was building the present castle. Besides the castle Stary Hradek or Castellum Vetus served until the second half of the 13th century continue as a royal residence. After the fall of the castle Stary Hradek whose tasks have been delegated as the administrative center of the area Rokytná the castle Křivoklát.

Under the rule Přemysl Otakar II and Wenceslaus II, the royal palace, which was rebuilt again under Wenceslas IV and later completed by Vladislav II was born. Křivoklát was severely damaged by fire. Later the castle was a notorious prison, so that the reputation declined sharply. Since 1743 the Princely House of Fürstenberg, the castle in the 19th century and restored in the romantic style and in 1881 transferred to the library from the Prague Fürstenberg palace in the castle.

In 1929 the house Furstenberg sold the castle together with inventory at the Czechoslovak Republic.
