Križevci (Hungarian Tótkeresztúr ) is a village and a municipality in Gornji Petrovci Goricko, the hilly part of the historical region of Prekmurje in Slovenia.

Geography

The town occupies the central part of the northern region of the hill - country of Goricko and grave. The scattered settlement covers the entire headwaters of the river Mala ( small ) Krka, spread over five hills and four Bach lowlands. The village is located about 3 km south of the community center of Gornji Petrovci and is on the main road 355, Murska Sobota - easy to reach Hodoš. On the hill Vrej (350 m) has formed a small center at the Protestant parish church. From here almost the entire village district can be seen with its varied corridor of mixed forests, fields, meadows, vineyards and orchards.

The individual collections of farmsteads and settlement groups wearing old field names. The most interesting and worth knowing ones are: Pečajni, Gergarovi, Novakovi, Vogrinkina sera, sera Židovská, Šoštarna sera, Casarni, Askini, Gorenji Konec, Ovčekovi, Kovčín Breg, Vrej, Zlak, Vučki dol and Rapčin Breg.

At the beginning of the 20th century Križevci was the most populous city of Goricko, since the Second World War, the population of the settlement due to poor working conditions and the remoteness of the place is rapidly declining.

History

The place is mentioned in the 1405 first documented as " Kerezthwr ", at the same time also a " Mykola de Kerezthwr " is mentioned, a small Dorfadeliger or free peasant. 1444 " Ladislaus de Keresthwr " 1564 " Olah de Kerezthwr " 1483 " Ladislaus de Keresthwr " and 1500 " Stephani Megyesfy de Kerezthwr ".

In a visitation protocol of the Diocese of Gyor / Raab is for the year 1698, the place name Totkeresztur documented, is also noted that the branch church was assigned to Holy Cross Parish Church of St. Benedict ( village Kančevci ).

In 1781, Emperor Joseph II issued the Edict of Toleration, then was already two years later, the newly established Protestant church Križevci record as a parish center for 21 settlements in Goricko pastoral activity. The new Protestant parish church on the hill Vrej was inaugurated in 1785 and 1790 included the Protestant parish Križevci 3888 already believers. The Treaty of Trianon struck the village to the Kingdom of SHS. For the city is now officially called 1921 Križevci following data were recorded in the census on 31 January found: 1090 Slovenians, 21 Hungary, 3 German, 3 other ethnic group, and of these 1117 residents known to the Catholic 28 and 1080 to the Protestant faith, were also counted: 2 Calvinists, five Jews and two other faiths.

In the census of 1931 971 inhabitants were calculated, in 1961 there were 780 and for 1971 the following figures are available: 780 inhabitants, 206 houses, 211 households and 649 villagers who live exclusively on agricultural income. In 1991, 507 residents were still resident in 2002 and lived only 437 people in this remote village.
