Krnov Synagogue

The synagogue in Krnov ( German hunters village), a Czech town in Okres Bruntál the Moravian-Silesian Region, was built in 1871 to 1875. The synagogue in the former temple ring is a protected monument.

History

The synagogue was built in the Romanesque Revival style by architect Ernst Latzel. The building in the round arch style with two striking towers is a representative building, which is visible from afar.

During the Second World War, the synagogue on the initiative of the City Council has been misused as a market hall, which prevented its demolition; the establishment was destroyed by the German occupiers, only some cult objects such as the Torah were rescued. From 1960, the District Archive was housed in the synagogue. In 1994, the synagogue of the Jewish community was passed in Olomouc and in the years that followed a comprehensive renovation took place.
