Kru people

The Kru are a West African nation that in Liberia, also in Ghana, Sierra Leone and Guinea is mainly resident.

Description

The Kru speak their own language, which belongs to the group of Kru languages ​​in the language family of the Niger - Congo languages ​​. The Kru languages ​​are named after the people of the Kru. In Liberia, approximately 244,000, living in Ghana about 21,000, about 11,000 in Sierra Leone and Guinea about 3,800 Kru. They are coastal residents; their livelihood earning many Kru by fishing and processing, as well as boat building and woodworking.

The Kru hired by European vessels as seamen in the 16th century. They were therefore exposed to early European influences. The English word crew to have become the name for the people of the Kru synonymous with the crew of a ship.
