Kruchten

Kruchten is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle.

Geography

The municipality is located in South Eifel nature. To Kruchten also includes the hamlet Neuafrika and Black fracture.

History

By finds of stone axes and other objects from the Stone Age there is evidence that Kruchten was inhabited in prehistoric times. The Romans have left traces which coin finds and ruins testify. From about 400 AD, the Romans were displaced by the Franks, as evidenced by grave sites.

The Franks divided the territory into districts. To 850 the seat of Gaugrafen von Trier is moved to Bitburg. The Gau called henceforth the Bed - Gowe ( Beda - district). The still popularly common term " Bekow " refers to the old district, but no longer corresponds to the same area. From that time, these records date first instruments of Kruchten namely as " Cruten " from the years 751 and 763, however, whether Kruchten (Eifel ) or Cruchten ( Luxembourg ) mine is not detectable with definitive certainty. The south-western Eifel region and thereby Kruchten has indeed changed its territorial affiliation several times, but remained Luxembourgish centuries. In 1443 the whole area came to the House of Burgundy, 1482-1555 it belonged to the Habsburg dynasty, after it fell to France. From 1698 to 1715 it was part of the Spanish Netherlands, 1715-1795, there was one in the Duchy of Luxembourg to the Austrian Netherlands and thus to the county of Vianden. From 1795 to 1814 it was again part of France ( Department of Forests ), then temporarily part of the General Lower Rhine and finally it was assigned in 1815 to the Kingdom of Prussia and from 1822 of the Rhine Province, where it remained until 1945. 1946 we began to see the then newly founded state of Rhineland -Palatinate.

The local council in Kruchten consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Attractions

  • On the military cemetery in Kruchten - Schwarzenbruch 88 soldiers of World War II have their final resting place. The cemetery is maintained by the German War Graves Commission.
