The Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited (in short: KTB, Thai: ธนาคาร กรุง ไทย, Chinese鹰 泰 银行) is the third largest bank in Thailand.

Introduction

The Krung Thai Bank has total assets (as at 31 December 2010) of approximately € 41 billion. Krung Thai leads 962 stores with 8,028 ATMs in the domestic and seven foreign subsidiaries, in Kunming, Los Angeles, Mumbai, Phnom Penh, Singapore and Vientiane. Headquartered in the district Watthana, Bangkok. Chairman of the Board is Sathit Limpongpan, Chairman of the Board is Payungsak Chartsutipol, Managing Director Apisak Tantivorawong.

History

The Krung Thai Bank was founded by the Thai government: In 1966, this under the aegis of the Ministry of Finance as the major shareholder, the Agricultural Bank and the Provincial Bank. 1987 also the Siam Bank was dissolved and fed their assets to Krung Thai. 1989 Krung Thai finally went to the Thai stock exchange and is listed there in the SET index. The Thai government still remains indirect major shareholder (January 2012: 55.12 % held by the Thai Financial Institutions Development Fund ).
