Krupnik

Krupnik is a traditional sweet vodka (honey liqueur ). It is based on a schnapps and honey, and is especially popular in Poland and Lithuania. It consists of 40 to 50% from drinking alcohol (not methylated spirit ), honey and up to 50 different herbs.

Known in Poland and in Lithuania at least since the 16th century, he was soon especially with the szlachta of the Polish -Lithuanian Union, a popular drink. There are numerous recipes in countless diaries this time.

The name is derived from the old Slavic word krupa ( stye ).

The origin and quality of honey as well as the ratio of the other ingredients are crucial to the final taste. It is drunk either hot or chilled.

The same drink is known as the East Prussian specialty under the name Bärenfang.

Krupnik is the Polish name for a barley soup ( barley ).
