Krupp-Protze

The unofficially as Krupp Protze designated triaxial wheeled vehicles of F. Krupp AG have been delivered under the name of L 2 H 43 ( 1933-1936 ) and L 2 H 143 ( 1937-1941 ) to the Reichswehr and Wehrmacht. Approximately 7,000 of the striking vehicles with sloping bonnet came during the Second World War as a swank cars for light Pak or Flak, personnel carriers and Fernmelde-/Funkwagen used.

Construction

Compared to other military vehicles of that time, the design was characterized by an unconventional technique: the central frame made of pressed U- profiles had forward a non-driven rigid axle with a transverse leaf spring assembly, while the four rear wheels were individually suspended by double wishbones. Their suspension was a top horizontally lying along the coil spring on each side. The air-cooled Krupp four-cylinder boxer engine drove two locking differentials on all four rear wheels. The hydraulic brake worked on all six wheels; the hand brake on the transmission to both rear axles. The Krupp M 305 engine with 3460 cc capacity was also used in the Panzer I (style A).
