Kryvbas

The Krywbass (Ukrainian Кривбас, full name: Krivoy - Rog iron ore basin, Ukrainian Криворізький залізорудний басейн ) is bound in iron ore mining and steel industry economic region in the center of Ukraine. It is probably the most important iron ore region of Eastern Europe.

Location

Named after the city of Krivoy Rog region are around 80-100 km west of the Dnieper River on the edge of Dneprhochlands in the southeastern part of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, as well as a small part in the Kirovohrad Oblast along the rivers and Inhulez Saksahan. The basin, which is geologically part of the Ukrainian shield, extends more than 100 km long in north-south direction and 1-2 km to 6 km wide. The area has a size of approximately 300 km ².

Importance

In the important region for the heavy industry there are large iron ore and other mineral deposits. To use them, several large mining companies were founded in the mid-20th century. In the densely populated region is the agglomeration of Krivoy Rog to the next to the city Krivoy Rog also the city Schowti Vody, in which occurs in the region of uranium is processed heard.

Kryvorizhstal auction (current name: Arcelor -Mittal Kryviy Rih ) is the largest and most modern steel producer in the entire Ukraine. The mining companies supply their raw materials either Kriworoschstal or steel mills outside the region, particularly after Dnipropetrovsk.

In the neighboring town Dolynska ( Kirovohrad Oblast ) is a modern mining and processing operation is co-financed by the Ukraine, Romania and Slovakia established.
