Krzysztof Matyjaszewski

Krzysztof Matyjaszewski ( born April 8, 1950 in Konstantynów Łódzki, Poland ) is a Polish- American polymer chemist.

CV and career

1972 acquired Matyjaszewski at the Technical University of Moscow his diploma in chemistry. At the Polish Academy of Sciences, he received his doctorate in 1976.

From 1977 to 1978 Matyjaszewski was a post - doctoral student at the University of Florida. Then he went back to Poland and was a research assistant at the Polish Academy of Sciences. From 1984 to 1985 he was first at the CNRS in France working as a research assistant and later a guest professor at the Sorbonne in Paris. His habilitation was Matyjaszewski 1985 at the University of Łódź. Then Matyjaszewski went to the United States and has been at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, first Junior Professor ( Assistant Professor ) and then Associate Professor (Associate Professor ). Since 1998 he is professor and director at the Center for Macromolecular Engineering and holder of the JC Warner Professor of Natural Sciences. Since 2001 he is also an adjunct professor at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Łódź and the University of Pittsburgh.

Matyjaszewski has both the Polish and the American citizenship. It is married and has two children.

Field of work

Matyjaszewski is primarily active in the field of polymer chemistry. In 1995, he and Mitsuo Sawamoto discovered - almost simultaneously but independently of each other - the atom transfer radical polymerization ( ATRP).

Publications

Matyjaszewski is the author / co-author of over 500 peer -reviewed publications, 10 books and 79 international patents. 2007 Matyjaszewski was in the ranking of the most highly cited chemists in fourth place.
