As a pianist he has performed with the "Ensemble for Contemporary Music MW2 " in Poland and other countries in Europe and also played his own compositions. From 1966 to 1987 Meyer taught at the Academy of Music in Krakow and was at times the vice-rector. 1975 to 1987 he held the chair of music theory. Work

First, in the 1960s, Meyer embarks on the search for new articulations and timbres. Especially the first three symphonies and string quartets, four have imaginative color properties whose diversity is the result of unusual articulation, contrasting invoices, percussion effects, or the use of quarter tones. At that time he also used twelve-tone and punctuated equilibrium, but also aleatoric and collage technique. For example, in the opera Cyberiad:

In the 1970s, he managed to make it through a synthesis of tradition and Neuzeitlichkeit own style with wide scale of musical medium and large suggestiveness of expression. Attachment to tradition is also reflected in the choice of genres ( symphony, concerto, string quartet, sonata, Mass, and the like).

Meyer composed, as if he believed in the meaning of a musical " story", the meaning of a dramaturgical development. The composer works intensively with the problem of the perception of music and him are the reactions of the audience important that can intuitively or even consciously feel the order and the expiration of his music. Therefore, it is the great shape he perceives as an integral unit, important. Lutz Lesle describes his method of composition:

The dramaturgy of his works usually runs at certain stages, according to " Meyers terminology " are:

  • Initial phase,
  • Main phase - defining the issues most important chords or timbres,
  • Transition phase - preparation or relaxation,
  • Phase of particular importance - climax or contrasting episode,
  • Final phase.

He often uses the principle of the golden section; other parameters such as rhythm, dynamics and harmony he can with symmetry, proportionality, and even numerology interact (eg in the 7th String Quartet, the role of the number 12). In his later works, he returned to the principle of sound center.
