Krzysztof Pomian

Krzysztof Pomian ( born January 25, 1934 in Warsaw ) is a Polish - French philosopher, historian and author.

Life

Pomian studied in the years 1952-1957 at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Warsaw. There he received his doctorate in 1965 and his habilitation in 1968. 1966 he was out of the communist Polish United Workers' Party ( PZPR ) excluded since he took dissident positions. In 1973 he went into exile in France.

The career Pomians in Western Europe was based on his work at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS ). He also taught, for example, at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales ( EHESS ), at the Ecole du Louvre and the University of Geneva. His publications were performed in Polish language and from 1973 mainly in French. He works as a consultant in various historical journals and advises the museum is currently under construction of the Second World War in Gdansk. Since 2001, he is the scientific director of the Musée de l'Europe in Brussels.

Pomian is an emeritus professor at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, foreign member of the Academy of Arts and Humanities of Poland, a member of the Ateneo Veneto in Venice, the Accademia Clementina in Bologna.
