KSU Gazal-1

Not roadworthy concept car of the Gazal -1 at the Geneva Motor Show.

The KSU Gazal -1 is a based on the Mercedes -Benz G-Class developed by students of King Saud University SUV. The vehicle was unveiled in March 2010 at the Geneva Motor Show to the world public. Support in the development of the vehicle received the budding engineers from the Austrian automotive company Magna Steyr and the Italian design studio Studio Torino. The model has been scheduled for mass production of 20,000 units per year. Primarily market should be the countries of the Middle East. The Gazal -1 is also regarded as the first developed and produced in Saudi Arabia automobile.

The first production vehicle of the model rolled off the production line on 15 June 2010. At the celebration of the start of production at the assembly plant of MAN Commercial Vehicles in Jeddah, among others, also took part in the King Abdullah bin Abd al- Aziz, who led a part of the presentation. The public presentation finally took place a few hours later in the Jeddah Palace and another following in the university.

The Gazal - 1 was developed specifically for use on the road as well as for use in dunes and desert regions. As a basis we chose the Mercedes -Benz G 500, as the G-Class in the Middle East is very popular. The drive only a gasoline engine is far ³ with a displacement of 5461 cm and a power of 285 kW ( 388 hp) with a torque of 530 Nm. The consumption of 2.4 ton vehicle is specified by the factory for a distance of 100 km with 14.7 l of the super - fuel. The maximum design speed should be at 210 km / h. Technically, the model is fully compliant with the original, only the body has been redesigned.

The model name " Gazal " ( غزال ) used comes from the Arabic language and means gazelle. According to the manufacturer, the name was derived from the desert gazelle, one of the fastest and most resilient creatures in the area. Currently, this species is under threat of extinction.
