Kubera

Kubera (Sanskrit कुबेर kubera "of the Shapeless ", Pali: Kuvera ) is the Vedic god of wealth, the merchants, the traders and the treasures of the earth. The Yaksha formed his entourage that monitors its treasures. Kubera is the half-brother of Ravana. He is married to the Goddess Riddhi ( " prosperity "). The God Vishvakarman to him in honor of the golden city of Lanka have built as his residence, which was later robbed him of Ravana. In Vedic times Kubera is often seen as the embodiment of evil. In modern Hinduism, it is only important than Lokapala of the North. In today's Hinduism its superb residence Alakapuri is the most beautiful garden in the world in the Himalayas over that of Shiva. Legends

A legend from mythology Ganesha tells how the god one day was invited to the God of Wealth in his palace. However, the voracious Ganesha had such a hunger that he ate up, repeatedly demanded Kuberas whole food by the look- and God made ​​so poor at the end. At the end he ate even Kuberas on the entire dish and his palace and threatened to engulf even the god himself, as his intense hunger was not to breastfeed. So Kubera complained of fear at Shiva, father of Ganesha and asked him for help. Shiva then called Ganesha to be admonished him and sent him to his mother Parvati, who gave him some rice cereal to eat. Then the cravings Ganesha was tamed and Kubera was saved.

A later legend, Kubera lived for thousands of years as economical ascetic, so he was raised as a reward from God Brahma the God of Wealth.

According to another legend, Kubera was a thief in a former life. He was in one, broken temples of Shiva, the god of thieves. But the lights went out in it and he brought it back with great determination. This impressed Shiva so much that he gave him the blessing of the status of an immortal God for his next life.

Iconography

Kubera is often depicted corpulent and one-eyed. His attributes are the club, pomegranate, kettle and money bag. His Vahana is a ram, stooping Brahmin and elephant. Its body color is white. Kubera has only four teeth, three heads and seven legs.
