Kubrat Pulev

Kubrat Wenkow Pulew (also Kubrat Venkov Pulev written, Bulgarian Кубрат Венков Пулев; born 4 May 1981 in Sofia, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian boxer and former European champion (EBU ) at heavyweight. His brother Terwel Pulew is also active as a boxer.

Amateur career

Kubrat Wenkow Pulew, called " The Cobra" was, during his time as an amateur boxer member of the Bulgarian army sergeant rank, and as such a member of the Army Sports Club CSKA Sofia. His coach was there Mikhail Takow. Pulew belonged to since 2001 the Bulgarian top class amateur boxer. In 2001 he was with a win over Ivan Atanasov first Bulgarian heavyweight champion. He won in 2001 also at one of the oldest European Boxturniere, the Strandjata Cup in Plovdiv, in the light heavyweight division with a win over his compatriot Emil Krastev.

The international career of Kubrat Pulew also began in 2001. He was inducted in the Amateur World Championships in Belfast at heavyweight. He won there over Mukhamet Adamov from Kazakhstan on points, but lost in the quarterfinals against Sultan Ibragimov of Russia and finished in fifth place.

In 2002, he won again when Strandjata Cup. Here he succeeded in the heavyweight division a sensational victory over the Cuban Odlanier Solís master. He then met with the subsequent chemistry Cup tournament in Halle (Saale ) back to Ibragimov, the he was defeated again. Together with Steffen Kretschmann, Germany, where he finished third place.

In 2003 Kubrat Pulew participated in the World Championships in Bangkok. In the heavyweight he met while in the very first round on Odlanier Solís, who in 2002 took revenge for their defeat at Standjata tournament Pulew struck points, threw him out of the race.

2004 won Kubrat Pulew in the championship of the European Union in Madrid in the heavyweight division over Turgony Balint from Hungary, Dieter Roth from Germany and Vitalijus Subacius from Lithuania and won the title in his class. At the 2004 European Championships in Pula in the super heavyweight he managed a victory over the strong German Alexander Powernow, but by a defeat in the second round, he left and came only to ninth place. This place was not enough as a qualification for the Olympic Games in Athens. After the European Championships in Pula he won the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Gothenburg in the super heavyweight. He suggested doing Andreas Gustafsson from Sweden, Vyacheslav Hlaskow from Ukraine and Alan Reynolds of Ireland. Despite this tournament victory, he was only substitute in the super heavyweight at the Olympic Games. Since, however, turned out no other boxer, he had to watch the Olympic boxing tournament in Athens.

The Boxjahr 2005 started very successfully for Kubrat Pulew, because he defeated the Strandjata tournament in Plovdiv in the final of the Russian masters Islam Timursijew convincingly on points ( 26:15 ) and was victorious once again in this tournament. When Chemistry Cup in Halle he surprisingly lost against Sebastian Köber from Germany and thus reached in Hall only fifth place in the super heavyweight division. At the World Championships in Mianyang / China, he defeated prematurely Steven jerks from Australia and Alen Begmanović from Serbia and was thus in the semifinals again his old rival Odlanier Solís opposite. Solís won on points ( 25:11 ) and was then world champion. For Kubrat Pulew but remained a third place, which was accompanied by winning a World Cup bronze medal.

2006 won Kubrat Pulew both the Strandjata tournament in Pleven as well as in chemistry Cup in Halle in the super heavyweight. In Pleven he won the finals without a fight over the injured Vyacheslav Hlaskow while he had to defeat three top European boxer from Russia in Halle with Jaroslavas Jaksto from Lithuania, Vyacheslav Hlaskow and Magomed Abdulsalamow. Another medal win then succeeded in the 2006 European Championship in Plovdiv. After victories over Vyacheslav Hlaskow and Csaba Kurtusz from Hungary was defeated there in the semi-final against Islam Timursijew by termination in the second round to win so that an EM bronze medal.

In 2007 Kubrat Pulew beat the chemistry Cup in Halle with Boris Boshenko, Stefan Köber Erkan Teper and the assembled German top class in the super heavyweight and thus won this tournament again. Before the World Championships in Chicago, he also took part in tournaments in Ústí nad Labem and Bucharest. In both tournaments he was unlucky, because in Usti he had to give up in the semifinal against Daniel Beehan injured from Australia. In Bucharest, he was injured in his semi-final victorious battle against Erkan Teper and entered the safe side final battle against Razvan Cojanu from Romania no longer.

At the 2007 World Championships in Chicago, he triumphed over Beka Lobschanidse from Georgia and Vladimir Prusa from the Czech Republic respectively on points. But In the second round he lost to Roberto Cammarelle from Italy and got away with it only to ninth place.

2008 Kubrat Pulew again won the Strandjata tournament at super heavyweight. In the final he defeated while the Cuban champion Robert Alfonso convincingly on points ( 20:9 ). He then fought his way in Pescara at the first European qualifying tournament for the 2008 Olympic Games, the ticket to Beijing. In Pescara, he triumphed over Köber Stefan from Germany, Raitis Ritenieks from Latvia and Jaroslavas Jaksto. At the Olympics he drove very confident. He arrived there in the first round to the almost unknown young Colombians Oscar Rivas and was beaten on points this surprising ( 5:11 ).

In November 2008, Kubrat Pulew could finally triumph at a major international championship. At the European Championships in Liverpool he won the title with four wins, defeating fight for victory Denis Sergeev from Russia convincingly on points ( 9:2 ). After this tournament he planned to go to the professional camp, what was it but at this time due to his ongoing contract with the Bulgarian military does not yet possible.

Pulew took part in the 15th Amateur World Championships in Milan in September 2009. He defeated there the Albanians Nelson Hysa by demolition in the third round and Yousef Abdelghani from Israel on points (8:2). In the quarterfinals, he parted with one defeat ( 6:12 ) against the reigning world and Olympic champion Roberto Cammarelle.

Professional career

After the Amateur World Championships 2009 Pulew moved to the pros, signed a contract with the German boxing stable Sauerland Event and earned his first professional fight on 19 September 2009 at Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg. In his third pro fight he defeated the Nigerians Gbenga Oluokun on points.

In 2010 Pulew denied six fights that he could finish all victorious. These included, inter alia, a knockout win over Matt Skelton and point victories over Dominick Guinn and Paolo Vidoz.

5 May 2012 in Erfurt Pulew won against Alexander Dimitrenko by knockout in the 11th round of the belt as European champion (EBU ), which he o on September 29, 2012 compared to the Russians Alexander Ustinov, also by K. the 11th round, defended.

In August 2013 he had a clear points victory against Tony Thompson (USA). After the victory he resigned from the European Champion belt, since he was appointed to the welter champion belt for the mandatory challenger of Klitschko after the IBF version.

Pulew punched in December 2013 in Neubrandenburg against American Joey Abell, where he won in the fifth round by TKO.
