Kuçovë District

The circle Kuçova (Albanian: Rrethi i Kuçovës ) is one of the 36 administrative districts of Albania. With an area of 112 km ² it is the smallest county in the country. It is part of Berat County. In the circle of life 27 281 inhabitants ( 2011). This is more than in many other circles that are larger by almost tenfold in part. It was named after the main town circle Kuçova.

Geography

Kuçova is located at the junction of the central Albanian Myzeqe level in the südalbanische mountain landscape. The western border of the circle is formed over long stretches of the river Osum, the northern boundary of the majority Devoll. Berat, the largest city in the region, is only 15 kilometers away from Kuçova.

Economy

Kuçova is the center of the Albanian oil industry, which is mined here since the 1930s. Since the end of communism but stand still many oil wells. The pollution from oil production is a serious problem in part: Many lines and sources of losing oil.

Even the military airfield of the Albanian Air Force at Kuçova had seen better days: The major airport still serves as a base for some obsolete MiG from the 1950s.
