Kudani (Swedish Gutanäs, German Kudanes ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Noarootsi ( Noarootsi vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.
Description
The place has eleven inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). He more than twelve kilometers north of the district capital of Haapsalu.
The village said to have been formerly an island called Krok - skäre with a fishing port. 1540 was the there mentioned as Guthnis documented. In 1575 it was destroyed by the Russians and Tatars; End of the 1580s he was resettled.
The place name is once again officially bilingual Estonian and Swedish, as the village used to belong to the traditional settlement area of the Estonian Swedes.
To the north of the village center extends the Kudani Lake ( Kudani järv ). He is since 1964 part of the extensive nature reserve Silma ( Silma looduskaitseala ) with its numerous species of birds.
