Kuddewörde

Kuddewörde is a municipality in the district of Lauenburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

Geography

Kuddewörde is located on the Bille, which forms the border with the municipality of Grande Stormarn in the northwest. In the southwest Kuddewörde adjacent to the Saxon Forest.

History

Kuddewörde presently consists of the former municipalities Kuddewörde and Rotenbek together, which was incorporated in 1936 in the town Kuddewörde.

Kuddewörde, with the Old Saxon name Kuthenworden, and Rotenbek were first mentioned in records in 1230 tithe register of the bishop in Ratzeburg. A donjon Duke Eric IV of Saxe- Lauenburg was destroyed in a dispute with the Hanseatic cities of Hamburg and Lübeck in 1420. Duke John IV of Saxe- Lauenburg donated in 1495 a convent of Wilhelmiten with a hospital. The monastery Kuddewörde existed until the Reformation, then until 1698 as a poorhouse. The buildings were demolished in 1780. The Kuddewörde castle from the 15th century was demolished in 1585.

Policy

Of the 13 seats in the municipal council, the CDU has been the local elections in 2013 six seats, the voter community BfK has five, and the FDP and the voter community AFWK have two seats each.
