Kufstein District

The district Kufstein is an administrative district in the Austrian state of Tyrol. To the north it borders on the Free State of Bavaria ( Miesbach, Rosenheim and Traunstein district ), in the southwest on the Schwaz district and to the southeast by the Kitzbühel district.

General

The district Kufstein was a long time in traditional Bavarian hand before the Kitzbühel district (then the three dishes Kufstein, Kitzbühel and mountain rats ) thus later came to Tyrol and Austria 1506.

Today it is the third most populous county of Tyrol and rapidly growing district. Kufstein and Wörgl among the largest cities of Tyrol, with the adjacent municipalities Ebbs, Kirchbichl, Unterlangkampfen Kundl and make them economically and terms of population, the center of the district.

Traffic

The district is the A 12 runs and the Western Railway (from Wörgl Hauptbahnhof with a branch above Zell am See and a branch via Kufstein to Salzburg ). In Unterlangkampfen is a small airfield, which is primarily used by glider pilots. The airports of Innsbruck, Salzburg and Munich are around 100 km away. From Kufstein to low- village there was until 2011 a tourism-oriented Inn Shipping, lack of passengers, this was discontinued after 14 years of operation.

Geography

The district primarily comprises the lowermost part of the Tyrolean Inn Valley to the Bavarian border and the side valleys Alpbach, Brandenberg valley Wildschönau, Thierseetal, the Lower Schrannenplatz or parts of the basin Kufsteiner are already in the foothills.

On mountains he has a share in the Brandenberg Alps, the Kitzbühel Alps, the Kaiser mountains and the Chiemgau Alps.

Major lakes include Lake Reintaler, Thiersee, Hechtsee, Hintersteinersee lake and Walchsee.

From the town of Kufstein innabwärts the valley floor is below 500 meters above sea level.

Economy and infrastructure

The economy of the district is dominated by the service sector, where trade and tourism is predominant. Important industrial sites are Kundl, Kufstein, Wörgl and Brixlegg. The largest production facilities can be found in the fields of pharmaceutical industry, production of rubber and plastic products and construction.

The district has a relatively high proportion of commuters, especially in the neighboring districts and to Innsbruck.

Administrative divisions

The district Kufstein is divided into 30 municipalities. Among them are three cities and two market towns. The population figures are as of January 1, 2013. Terms of area, the largest municipality of the district is 130.18 km ², the municipality of Brandenberg, while the municipality rats mountain has 0.11 km ² the smallest municipality area (there is also the smallest town in Austria ). However, the population density in rats mountain is the highest and the lowest in Brandberg. The district capital is Kufstein with 17 891 (1 January 2013) inhabitants the most populous municipality, Maria Stein is with 328 (1 January 2013) inhabitants, the inhabitants even counterpart of Kufstein.
