Observation tower at Cow Mountain

The Cow Mountain is a 795 m high mountain in the western Ore Mountains in Saxony. It belongs administratively to the place Stützengrün.

Description

A 20 meter high observation tower with 99 steps leads to the outlook of the Ore Mountains and the adjoining north-western Vogtland. It was built by Ore - Zweigverein Schonheide 1894 as Prince George's Tower and is open all year to climb a fee. The brick tower was increased in the 1990s by a wooden structure, so that the end can visit them to see beyond the surrounding trees. The meantime grown forest leaves no view of the landscape to more. The local tourist office was still no way within a smaller radius to fell the trees around the tower into an agreement with the Saxon State Forestry Administration, so that it can be used again as a lookout.
