Kuldip Nayar

Kuldip Nayar ( born August 14, 1923 in Sialkot, Punjab, also: Kuladipa NAIARA ) is an Indian journalist who is known for his political columns.

Life

Nayar comes from a Sikh Khatri family; his parents were Gurbaksh Singh and Pooran Devi. His mother tongue is Urdu. He attended the Ganda Singh High School, and then took up studies, including the Murray College and the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in the USA. He earned several academic degrees: BA ( Hons. ), LL.B., M.Sc. ( Journalism ) and earned his Ph.D.

After the partition of India and the independence from British colonial rule in the late 1940s Nayar returned back to India and lived in Delhi. He started as a journalist for the Urdu - language daily newspaper Anjam ( "The End " ) to work. In the period of civil unrest and the emergency government ( 1975-77 ) under President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, he was temporarily detained. Since 1985, he wrote newspaper columns that are printed in 80 media in 14 languages ​​in India and abroad, including India's most influential print media.

In 1990 he was appointed High Commissioner to Britain. In 1996 he was part of the Indian delegation to the United Nations. In August 1997 he became a member of Rajya Sabha named ( Upper House of Indian Parliament ).

Since May 2007, he writes for the Urdu - language newspaper Daily Waqt / Daily Jang in Pakistan.

Nayar represents the position of understanding and peace between India and Pakistan in his lyrics.

Nayar lives in New Delhi.
