Kulturfabrik Moabit

As a culture Moabit is a formerly -used as a factory and warehouse in Lehrterstraße Berlin -Moabit referred in which there is a cinema, a theater, a cafe and concert and party rooms.

History

The 1911 Ernst Scharnke built for the Wertheim Group called Wertheim House in Lehrterstraße 35 was army butcher, biscuit factory, home to stone carvings and food cans - the Lehrter Str 35 accommodated many facets of the industry in Berlin. Between 1976 and 1991 there was silence around the former factory. Windows and doors were bricked up on the ground floor, the house dawned before him.

In 1991, the building was reopened after negotiations with the Berlin Senate; the culture Moabit was born. Artists, residents and students organized themselves in associations Culture Factory Lehrterstraße 35 eV, Factory Theatre, Filmrauschpalast eV, Slaughterhouse eV and Kunsthalle Moabit eV (the latter until 1996) and work today in the same internal structure; the association " Culture Factory Lehrter Str 35 eV " serves as a common roof and plenary of the smaller clubs and as the representative of the house towards the authorities and the public. In addition, the umbrella organization includes a team of educators; this provides daily child and youth care and offers a variety of courses and recreational activities.

Offers

What began in 1991 as a simple idea has evolved from completely own strength and without any institutional support to Moabit the only socio-cultural cultural center with theater, cinema, concerts, café and educational care for resident children and adolescents. Performed since 1991 as a charitable organization, the culture Moabit combines the clout of about 150 volunteers and 40 full-time ( and ABM, RBM and MAE ) employees.

A regular film and theater program, concert and party dates, the Long Night of diving and Bars Golf Tournaments are among the standard offerings of culture Moabit.

In September 2011, the Favourites Film Festival Berlin was first held in the premises of the Culture Factory and has since established itself as an annual event series.
