Kumanovo Agreement

The Agreement of Kumanovo (Serbian: Vojno - Tehnicki sporazum u Kumanovu or Kumanovski sporazum ) was signed on 9 June 1999 near Kumanovo in the military airfield. The agreement marked the termination and the end of Operation Allied Force, which had a March 24, held until June 10, 1999 military operation by NATO against the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War. A day later, the resolution was adopted in 1244 by the United Nations.

The agreement was signed by the General Svetozar Marjanovic of the Yugoslav Army, the Police General Obrad Stevanovic and the British General Mike Jackson.

The main provisions

  • Cessation of hostilities between NATO troops with the Yugoslav army and Serbian police.
  • The withdrawal of the Yugoslav army and Serbian police from Kosovo in the period of 11 days.
  • Establishing a safety zone of the administrative border with Kosovo within the Republic of Serbia and Montenegro.
  • The obligation of KFOR troops to disarm the KLA.

Implementation

With the signing of the agreement conditions were created for the Yugoslav army and Serbian police and at the same time began a kind of race between the KFOR and the Russian troops which were stationed in Bosnia and Herzegovina and NATO whose forces were stationed in Albania and Macedonia.
