Kumberg is a market town with 3662 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) northeast of Graz in the district of Graz-Umgebung in the Austrian province of Styria.

Geographical location
Kumberg is located about 15 km northeast of the provincial capital of Graz in the East Styrian Hill Country on Rabnitzbach, a tributary of the Raab.

History
Its name recalls its founder Kuno von Rott, Count Palatine of Bavaria ( 1055 - 1086 ). The market Kumberg was first mentioned in documents in 1142.

Structures
- Kainberg Castle is a Renaissance castle from the 16th century. Since it is privately owned, it is difficult to access.
- The parish church was built in the 17th century in Baroque style, and replaces the previous building from the 12th century. A Roman stone is from the 2nd century to the outside.

Traffic
The Weiz Straße (B 72) from Graz to Weiz runs through the municipality. Within a radius of 15 km there are no motorway connection - either on the South motorway (A2 ) nor to the Phyrn motorway ( A9). The track Straße (B 65 ) is about 10 km away.
In the municipality there is no train station. Graz Main Train Station is about 18 km, the Weiz station about 15 km away.
Distance from Graz Airport is about 30 km.

Mayor since 2000, Franz Gruber ( ÖVP). First deputy mayor is Ferdinand Müller ( ÖVP), 2nd Vice Mayor Mag Joachim Hirtenfellner ( SPÖ).
