Kumertau

Kumertau (Russian Кумертау, Bashkir Күмертау ) is a city in the Republic of Bashkortostan (Russia) with 62 851 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the western edge of the Southern Urals, about 240 km south of the capital Ufa Republic of the river Karagaika in the river system of the Kama.

Kumertau is surrounded by the territory of Rajon Kujurgasinski, but not part of this, but is subordinate to the oblast administrative directly.

History

Kumertau was created in 1947 ( according to other sources 1948) with the beginning of the development eineer nearby brown coal deposits, has already received in 1949 the status of an urban-type settlement and 1953 city law.
