Kunio Hiramatsu

Kunio Hiramatsu (Japanese平 松 邦夫, Kunio Hiramatsu; * November 15, 1948 in Amagasaki, Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese non-party politician and former mayor of Osaka.

Hiramatsu, a former news anchor at MBS, was elected on 18 October 2007 against the incumbent mayor Seki Jun'ichi. Since it was the first major municipal election since the appointment of Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, the election was also the nation's attention. While Seki was supported by the government parties and Kōmeitō LDP, the opposition Democratic Party called for Hiramatsu.

Hiramatsu, took office on 19 December 2007. Hiramatsu was the first mayor of Osaka in about 50 years, who had not previously been deputy mayor. In 2011, he lost despite the bipartisan support the mayoral election to Tōru Hashimoto from Osaka Ishin no Kai.
