Kunkhyen Pema Karpo

Pema Karpo Künkhyen ( Tib: kun mkhyen padma dkar po, * 1527, † 1592) was the fourth Gyelwang Drugpa, the head of the Drukpa tradition, one of the so-called " eight smaller schools " of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism ( Vajrayana ) and a notable scholar. He wrote works on philosophy, logic, literature, history and astrology and also wrote on Mahamudra.

He taught in Sangngag Choling ( gsang sngags chos gling ) monastery in southern Tibet the new headquarters of the Drukpa Kagyu tradition in.

His reincarnations include the 5th Gyelwang Drugpa Pagsam Wangpo ( dpag bsam dbang po; 1593-1641 ), who remained in Tibet and Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel ( zhabs drung rnam rgyal dbang ngag; 1594-1651 ), who went to Bhutan.
